Case Study / Missing Person / Finding Dad

Children conceived during short term relationships often struggle to establish exactly who their fathers are. That’s where Mr Tracer comes in. He was contacted by A, who although she knew that she had been born in a large New Zealand Metropolitan city in the early 1970’s, no other information about her dad was available. Her mother was not being particularly helpful in providing information as to her dad’s identity or whereabouts.

The Investigation

A’s mother agreed to meet with the investigator and was able to provide limited information as to how she had met B, the general area where he lived and worked and the length of the relationship. She had met B through a friend who also agreed to meet with the investigator and it transpired that she had an old photograph of him.

Through more detailed investigative work, B’s identity was established and tracing enquiries were commenced. These took the investigator to Australia where a family member of B’s was located and able to provide contact details for his brother.

This brought the enquiry back to New Zealand where B was discretely traced and contacted.

He agreed to provide a DNA sample which was compared with A’s and the relationship was confirmed.

The Outcome

B agreed to have A contact him directly and this was arranged. A was so happy to find her new family. They had so much love to give and were equally happy to have her in their lives. She talks to her dad every day and has also developed a close relationship with his children. Lots of happy tears.
